Perhaps you're a woman who wishes she could do something to promote peace and international understanding. Here's a simple idea you may not have considered: write a letter.

Women Writing Women sends letters of friendship from American women to Muslim women in the Middle East. The program began in 2003 right here at First Christian, and now sends letters from women all over the United States.

We have wonderful help distributing the letters: the Division of Overseas Ministries, a cooperative effort of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. They work with Sabeel, an ecumenical Palestinian Christian organization on the West Bank that holds English classes for Muslim women and sponsors other helpful programs.

Our letters are short, friendly – and in English. Most women say it takes about 20-30 minutes to write theirs. We know that most of our letters won't be answered, but no matter what, we have planted a seed of friendship.
