Barbara's Habitat for Humanity House

What an incredible experience it was to travel to Meridian to help fulfill a dream of Barbara, a mother to have a home of her own for her family. She was scheduled to have a Habitat House last fall, but Katrina came along and delayed that dream. She never gave up her dream and we were able to help bring that dream closer to reality for her.

We came and discovered a shell of a house. We learned quickly from our "teachers" (Mike, Gerald & Mr. Raspberry) and we worked hard in the sweltering heat of Mississippi to do work that was completely new to most of us (Mike never had to tell us to "get 'er done"). When we left, we had finished enclosing the house, put up outside insulating board and inside insulation. put in soffits between the roof and the house, put in a soffit over the porch, run all electrical and telephone cable, and installed the vinyl siding (without ever hearing Mike say, "take 'er down").
